As a former wind ensemble percussionist, Monday’s pick was very exciting for me. We had the score for the video game Thin Air, which was composed by Siddhartha Barnhoorn. Siddhartha is an award winning composer who has created scores for over 70 films, along with video game soundtracks and commercials. The soundtrack for Thin Air is sweepingly beautiful, it is extremely soothing but it may also pique your interest to see where the songs might have been used in the game.
Reissue Tuesday hit us with not 1, but 2 reissues! The first one is How the West Was Won, rereleased on March 23 in a 4LP, 3CD, DVD Audio Super Deluxe package which includes a book of rare, previous unpublished photos and a hight-quality print of the album cover. To make that even more rad, the first 3,000 were individually numbered.
Our second reissue was Juliana Hatfield’s 1992 debut Hey Babe on vinyl. A small indie label called American Laundromat Records remastered and reissued it. It was mastered by Sean Blonek at SRG studios from the original quarter-inch analog tapes, this limited-edition pressing was hand-pressed in Vermont.
Wednesday was full of electronica and ambient synth with the song Forward is Forearmed. Concretism, a musical project that was started by the UK’s Chris Sharp in 2010, can be described as “world of dusty archival sounds and grim Cold War Britain, conjured up using a combination of analogue synthesizers and tape bouncing.” Their forthcoming album is going to be released at the end of April. There is an edition of 200 copies pressed on “Nuclear bunker hospital bay” turquoise vinyl that you can pre-order now on bandcamp.
And to wrap up the week with a personal favorite of mine, new music from the band GUM. This band will easily become a new favorite of yours too. GUM is Jay Watson’s, from Tame Impala, side project. The new song is called The Underdog, and everyone loves an underdog. That is the title track to their new album which was released today, April 6th 2018. With a down tempo vibe, fat bassline, killer synth and guitar leads, this is a song that you will be jamming too for a while.
